Instead of permanently deleting an asset, Device Rescue gives Admins and Users the ability to retire an asset. Retiring removes the asset from active use while preserving important historical information like assignments, notes, and documents.
Important Rules for Retiring Assets
-
Only Admin and User Roles can retire assets
-
To retire an asset, it must meet one of the following conditions:
-
Unassigned (not linked to a team member or office branch)
-
Not located at the warehouse
-
Not currently en route to the warehouse
-
Not in the process of being shipped to a team member or office branch
-
You cannot retire an asset if it is:
-
Assigned to a team member or office branch
-
Stored at the warehouse
-
En route to the warehouse
-
Actively being shipped
🛑 In short: The asset must be Unassigned before it can be retired.
Optional: Sold Price
When retiring an asset, you will have the option to enter a Sold Price if the asset was sold.
-
This helps you track recovered value from retired equipment
-
Sold prices are stored for internal reporting and asset lifecycle tracking
💰 Tip: If the device wasn't sold, simply leave the Sold Price field blank when retiring.
Why Retire Instead of Delete?
Retiring is strongly recommended because it:
-
Retains full assignment history
-
Preserves notes, documents, and all metadata
-
Maintains a complete audit trail for compliance or reporting
-
Keeps asset lifecycle data even after removal from active use
Deleting an asset permanently erases all records and cannot be reversed.
