If a team member has physically returned an asset to you, you can update the assignment manually using the Mark Returned option. This feature is essential for maintaining accurate records in your employee equipment retrieval service operations when equipment is returned outside of the standard remote device pickup service process.
How to Mark an Asset as Returned
-
Navigate to the Team Member.
-
In the Assignments section, find the asset you want to mark as returned.
-
Click the Actions dropdown next to the asset.
-
Select Mark Returned.
-
In the pop-up:
-
Enter the Returned Date.
-
Optionally, add an Asset Note (internal use only).
-
-
Click Confirm & Return.
The asset will move from Assigned to the Returned tab, and it will become available for reassignment.
Important Notes
-
Mark Returned is different from Retrieve Asset.
-
Mark Returned is used when you manually track that an asset has been returned, without using a Retrieval Kit.
-
-
This tool allows you to manage device assignments and returns independently, without requiring a Device Rescue Retrieval Kit.
-
Historical assignment and return records are preserved for reporting and audit purposes.
When to Use Mark Returned vs. Retrieval Kits
Use Mark Returned for:
- Equipment returned directly to the office during offboarding device collection
- Local handoffs when employees work on-site
- Assets retrieved through alternative IT equipment retrieval methods
- Equipment returned by departing employees during their final day
Use Retrieval Kits for:
- Remote employees requiring laptop retrieval service coordination
- Remote employee asset recovery from distant locations
- Standardized IT asset retrieval service processes with tracking and logistics support
- Remote worker device collection requiring shipping and handling
Best Practices for Manual Return Processing
Immediate Documentation: Record returns promptly to maintain accurate employee equipment retrieval service records and prevent discrepancies in asset tracking.
Detailed Notes: Use the Asset Note field to document return conditions, any issues observed, or additional context relevant to the IT asset retrieval process.
Date Accuracy: Ensure the returned date reflects the actual return date for compliance and reporting accuracy.
Asset Verification: Verify the physical condition and functionality of returned equipment before marking it as returned and available for reassignment.
Integration with Broader Retrieval Operations
The Mark Returned feature complements your comprehensive remote device pickup service strategy by:
- Providing flexibility for mixed retrieval scenarios (some remote, some local)
- Maintaining consistent record-keeping across all IT equipment retrieval methods
- Supporting audit trails for compliance regardless of return method
- Enabling efficient asset lifecycle management and redistribution
Record Keeping and Compliance
Manual return tracking supports your employee equipment retrieval service compliance requirements by:
- Maintaining complete assignment and return histories
- Documenting return dates for audit and regulatory purposes
- Preserving asset notes for future reference and troubleshooting
- Supporting asset lifecycle reporting and analysis
This comprehensive tracking ensures that whether equipment is returned through remote employee asset recovery services or manual processes, your organization maintains complete visibility and control over asset movements.
